London driving test waiting times: wider regional comparison

Published by HSA Driving on 17 October 2026. The DVSA released its September 2026 driving test statistics on 14 October 2026. This companion article compares Borehamwood with centres across East, South and West London. For Hendon, Barnet, Mill Hill, Pinner and Enfield figures, read our North London waiting-time report.

Borehamwood and other areas of London: September 2026 comparison

The following figures use the same measure as the North London list: median actual wait in weeks among candidates who completed their practical test in September 2026. These figures are not live appointment availability.

Borehamwood and the North-West fringe

  • Borehamwood (London): 15.6 weeks; 30.7% of completed tests were taken within seven weeks. Borehamwood is administratively classified in the East of England region in the DVSA statistics, although it serves many North London learners.

East London

  • Goodmayes (London): 11.8 weeks; 45.6% within seven weeks.

South London

  • Mitcham (London): 16.1 weeks; 40.9% within seven weeks.
  • West Wickham (London): 6.0 weeks (reported as a nearby centre in the published Mitcham comparison).
  • Morden (London): 19.1 weeks (reported in the same comparison).

West London

  • Yeading (London): 3.0 weeks, according to a September 2026 centre-level analysis of DVSA table DRT122F. This does not mean a test can be booked in three weeks today.

How should learners interpret the comparison?

The figures show large differences in historical completed-test waiting times, including between centres in the same part of London. However, they do not indicate which centre has a bookable appointment today. Some centres have a much longer appointment-availability measure despite short actual waits, because the two metrics answer different questions.

Data provenance: DVSA official DRT122F release, with published September 2026 transcriptions from Drive Test Finder — Borehamwood, Goodmayes, Mitcham and September 2026 national report. These are historical statistics, not official live slot searches.

Important: Under DVSA's 2026 rules, an existing car-test booking cannot simply be transferred to any centre in London. Only the permitted nearby alternatives for that booked centre may be used. Check the current rules before making a booking or attempting a change.

North London versus the rest of London

For context, the North London comparison includes Hendon (21.1 weeks), Barnet (19.1 weeks), Mill Hill (16.4 weeks), Pinner (23.1 weeks) and Enfield Innova (2.4 weeks). These are median waits for tests completed in September, not available booking slots.

Choosing a test centre: HSA driving advice

A short historical waiting time does not mean an earlier test is available now, or that a learner should book at an unfamiliar centre. Consider your test readiness, permitted booking changes, travel arrangements and whether you can drive independently on unfamiliar roads. Book an HSA driving lesson or assessment.
